Fringe Benefits, Part 3

... in which I thank those who have helped me during my crazy journey to and on motherhood, in completely random order.

To the woman who handed me a coupon for three free bagels while my daughter and I sashayed down Main Street since we were early for her doctor’s appointment, one bagel of which kept her very distracted while she got her four shots that I hadn’t warned her about because I was busy blogging instead of researching what the fourth year physical entails.

Thank you, bagel coupon-wielding woman.

How To Take Care of a Library Book

. . . in which I continue my series of Random Stuff I Learned From My Daughter, to illuminate just how much we can learn from watching our kids navigate their way through the world, but mostly because it's  10:19 pm, I really want to blog everyday for April's NaBloPoMo, and I just remembered that I need to hard boil 4 eggs for Cricket's preschool's Easter Egg coloring activity. So here's a quick photo while I google how to boil eggs without cracking them.

Cricket deftly avoids getting sticky handprints on her library book.

Praying for Change

So I'm doing something new for April's National Blogging Writing Month, which is sponsored by BlogHer.com  I'm not sure if it's kosher, but I'm cross-posting with my other blog (Quiet MOM-ents) and counting it as one of the  daily blog postings. The bottom line is that I AM writing everyday, just dividing it between my two blogs.

I should probably just have one blog, but the two don't seem to jive well.  You be the judge.  Here on MOMenclature I write about adoption, the funny stuff of being a mom, and an occasional tear-jerker.  At Quiet MOMents, I write about my life as a Christian and my attempt to pray each morning to center myself and gear up for my day as a stay-at-home mother. I often feel a little schizophrenic with these two blogs.  But I like 'em both.

Anyway, here's today's post from Quiet MOMents about my experience with a new prayer group at my church.

Enjoy.

Birthday on The Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Part 1

...in which I try to convince you that it's okay to lie to your children.

I hereby given permission to all parents who live in cold weather climates to tell their winter babies that they were actually born in the summer. If you really adhere to some twisted ethical standards and don’t lie to your children, then pack your bags right now and move to San Diego or Costa Rica where you can have an outdoor birthday party during the dead of winter and not have to subject yourself to the germ-infested, money-draining insanity of an indoor commercial party venue.

March Madness - Preschool Style

In which I tell you that it's nearly impossible to be a first-time mom of a preschooler and not be “a day late and a dollar short” at least half a dozen times.

So it seems like summer in New England begins on the spring equinox since that’s when I was handed a summer camp info packet from my daughter’s preschool director notifying me that if I wanted to sign Cricket up for day camp I had exactly 264 hours to decide on how many days and weeks she would go - if at all - and to fork over two weeks tuition.
